About

A quiet journal about a quiet country.

Helsinki harbor

What Finland is a small independent journal about the country most travelers still fly over. We write about saunas, salmon soup, second cities, and the fact that the sun does not really set here in June.

Every story is written by someone who has actually been to the place it describes. We have no sponsored posts, no affiliate links, and no patience for lists of the "top 10" of anything.

What we cover

  • Cities — Helsinki, Tampere, Turku, Oulu, and the smaller ones worth the train ride.
  • Nature — Lapland, the archipelago, and the 40 national parks in between.
  • Culture — sauna, silence, midsummer, and everything that gets lost in translation.
  • Food — recipes and cafés, honestly reviewed.
"In Finland, less is not less. Less is the point."
